Chicago Mayor Richard Daley Tuesday appointed police veteran Ron Holt to head Chicago's Alternative Policing Program (CAPS).
Holt, a 19-year veteran of the CPD, is the father of Blair Holt, a 16-year-old teen who was shot and killed aboard a CTA bus in 2007. He said he is motivated by his son's death to clean up the streets.
"If I can convince one young man to stay away from gangs and drugs the formula has worked," said Holt, who wears a picture of his son on his suit. He adds "bullets don't have a name on them."
As for Daley: "I've told Ron CAPS must re-double its efforts to be an important catalyst."
