Embattled Chicago Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. used campaign funds to pay an FEC consultant, according to records on file with the Federal Election Commission.
The Congressman’s FEC report details a $3,000 itemized disbursement to Ms. Whitney Burns on Aug. 2, 2012. The purpose of the expenditure is listed as “FEC Consult.”
The expenditure was made more than two months before reports detailed an FBI investigation into possible misuse of campaign funds by the Jackson campaign.
Burns, reached by phone at her Springfield, Va., home declined to comment without consent of the congressman or his campaign.
In a 2009 letter to the FEC, Burns described herself, “As a professional specializing in financial compliance and public disclosure for political committees for the last twenty-five years."
