The candidates for governor are recruiting running mates for their campaigns. It's unfamiliar to many political stalwarts because this is the first time they've had to choose instead of simply waiting for the winner or a lieutenant governor's race.
It appears it isn’t easy to choose a political partner.
Both Democrats in the race -- Pat Quinn and Bill Daley -- have yet to make a choice. Well, sort of.
Some political sources say Quinn asked Chicago City Treasurer Stephanie Neeley to join up with his ticket but that she said "no."
Neely declined to confirm that nugget, but her statement doesn't appear to deny it either.
By email, Neeley said: "I have been hearing those rumors myself, but to comment on them at this time would be very premature. Any specifics on who the governor will ask and select to be a running mate should come from the governor himself."
Quinn's office said the selection process is ongoing and that no one has yet been offered the job.
