A 28-year-old man was shot to death and 11 others were injured in a shooting that sparked a rollover crash on the South Side of Chicago early Sunday morning.
Around 2 a.m. a group of people were standing outside near 57th and LaSalle in the Englewood neighborhood when a gunman approached and started shooting at them, according to Chicago Police. At least one person in the group returned fire.
Six people on the street were shot, including a 28-year-old man who died at St. Bernard Hospital after being struck in the chest, police said.
Two of the injured — women, ages 19 and 29 — are in serious condition, the younger one with a graze wound to the face and the older woman with a gunshot wound to the face. The other three victims — a 24-year-old woman, a 28-year-old woman and 29-year-old man — were listed in stable condition at area hospitals, according to police
During the shooting, a dark-colored SUV driving in the area was caught in the crossfire and rolled over, police said. All six people inside the car were transported to area hospitals.
A neighbor who lives nearby told NBC Chicago he heard 50 or 60 shots fired during the incident and said that it sounded "like a war zone."
The shooting may have been gang-related, a police source said.
