Chicago mustache growers rejoice. The city has been named "America's Most Mustache-Friendly City" by a stache-loving organization.
The American Mustache Institute spent the past two years analyzing 100 U.S. cities and interviewing 200 mustached Americans looking for the city that most embraces their facial hair of choice.
What sets Chicago apart? Bears players who continue to sport mustaches, said Aaron Perlut, the institutes's chairman, in an interview.
Other top cities on the AMI list include Houston, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma City, Detroit and Milwaukee.
Chicago will host AMI's annual Stache Bash charitable benefit Oct. 28 at Joe's Bar on Weed St. It serves as a kickoff for Movember, the global mustache-growing charity campaign raising awareness and funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation, LIVESTRONG.
The 2011 "Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year" will be announced at the event. AMI is currently accepting nominations for this award on their website through Oct. 7.
The AMI is a St. Louis-based facial hair advocacy organization founded in 1965 that works toward greater acceptance and promotion of mustaches, according to the AMI website.
