$70,000 Worth of iPads Stolen From Elementary School

Burglars smashed windows of a West Side elementary school and nabbed 141 iPads valued at more than $70,000 early on Memorial Day, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

It happened just before 1 a.m. at Charles Hughes Elementary School in the 4200 block of West 15th in North Lawndale, according to police.

Police were told at least two people shattered the glass of a window on the south side of the building. Police found another shattered window in a second-story room with safes strewn about, according to a police report.

Police were unable to find anyone inside, and do not have a description of the offenders.

The school’s principal told police 141 iPads valued at $70,500 had been stolen.

Hughes, a neighborhood school with classes for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, had 332 students last year, according to CPS.
