At least eight people were shot overnight in Chicago’s South and West sides, police said.
The first shooting occurred at 8:15 p.m. Saturday in the 6200 block of South Richmond Avenue when a 72-year-old woman was shot in the arm while standing on the sidewalk, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.
The elderly woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition, Estrada said.
Later Saturday, a 38-year-old man was shot on the city’s west side. The man was shot in the leg in the 100 block of Springfield Avenue and was taken in stable condition to Mount Sinai, police said. The man’s shooter fled the scene and crashed into two cars and a CTA bus nearly a mile away.
The shooter was taken into custody and treated at Stroger Hospital for injuries. One person was killed in the crash and four others were injured.
Two teens were injured less than 30 minutes later in the 5900 block of South Laflin Avenue. A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were both shot in the legs and taken to Stroger in good condition, police said.
Details surrounding their shooting were not immediately available.
Around 3:05 a.m. Sunday a 20-year-old woman was shot in the 800 block of North Parkside Avenue. She was standing on the sidewalk with a man when two offenders approached and fired shots, police said.
The woman was running from the shooters when she realized she had been struck in the shoulder, officials said. She was taken to Mount Sinai in serious condition.
Three others were injured in a bloody hour Sunday.

A 60-year-old woman was shot in the chin around 450 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Wood Street, police said. Officials said it did not appear the woman was the intended target.
She was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
Around 520 a.m. 33-year-old male was shot in the 3500 block of West Hirsch Street. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg. He was last listed in good condition.
15 minutes later a 17-year-old man was shot in the 7200 block of South Halsted Street. He suffered a gunshot wound to his upper right arm, police said.
He was last listed in good condition at Saint Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center.
