At Least 3 Deaths Reported in Gary House Fire: Official

A Gary official said the fire department reported three fatalities at the location but the cause of death remained undetermined

At least three people are dead following a fire Friday afternoon in northwest Indiana, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at around 11 a.m. near 20th and Noble in Gary. Footage from the scene showed a charred home with several windows blown out. The fire appeared to have been put out as of 1 p.m., but a heavy police and fire response remained at the scene.

Fire officials confirmed three people were found dead inside the home, but it remained unclear if the victims' deaths were caused by the fire.

Neighbors told NBC 5 that approximately 7 adults and 10 children lived at the home. Family members believed children were not home at the time of the fire, and they were waiting for the victims to be identified on Friday afternoon.

"All we know is God is able, and he is going to take care of us, and may God bless the souls of the deceased, and let them go be with God," family member Stella Campbell said. "That's all we can tell you."

It was not immediately clear if the cause of the fire was known.
