Toddler Thrown From Car, Run Over During Domestic Fight

Joseph Fults, 46, faces one misdemeanor count each of battery and domestic battery

A man from Chicago's south shore faces domestic battery charges after he allegedly beat his girlfriend and her son early Monday before throwing her 8-month-old daughter from a moving vehicle.

He then drove over the baby when he sped off, police said.

Joseph Fults, 46, of the 7400 block of South Phillips, was charged with one misdemeanor count each of battery and domestic battery, police said. He was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail during a Tuesday morning court appearance.

A fight broke out between Fults and his 23-year-old girlfriend about 2:40 a.m. inside the vehicle near Cottage Grove and 75th Street, police said. While hitting his girlfriend, the woman’s 7-year-old son tried to intervene and the man proceeded to strike the boy, police said.

Fults then threw the woman’s 8-month-old daughter from the window of the vehicle.

Both children had bruises and were taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, where both of their conditions had stabilized, police said.

Fults -- who is not the father of the children’s -- was taken into custody a short time after the incident, police said.

His next court appearance was scheduled for 9 a.m. on Sept. 16 at 355 W. Harrison St.
