The Chicago Blackhawks hit the ice on Sunday afternoon against the St. Louis Blues, and as has happened on numerous occasions in recent years, a player set a new team record in the process.
This time, that player was defenseman Brent Seabrook, who scored his 20th career playoff goal in Sunday’s tilt. That number is now the new record-holder for most playoff goals by a defenseman in Blackhawks history, as Seabrook passed Doug Wilson and Bob Murray on the all-time list.
Seabrook’s tally came on a power play early in the first period, as he blasted a shot past Brian Elliott. He has scored some of the most famous goals in Blackhawks playoff history, including his series-winning goal against the Detroit Red Wings in the 2013 postseason and his game-winning goal against the Boston Bruins in Game 4 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Final.
It did take Seabrook more games (115) to set the record than either Murray (112) or Wilson (95) did, but it’s still a remarkable achievement considering some of the great players that have skated for the organization. Seabrook now sits at 59 career playoff points, which is one behind Pierre Pilote for third place on the Hawks’ all-time playoff list for defensemen.
The two players ahead of him? Wilson, who racked up an incredible 80 points as a blue liner, and Duncan Keith, who has 77 in his career.
