Chicago to Launch $34M Loop Link Express Bus Service Downtown This Weekend

More than 1,000 buses with routes that include the Loop Link will use dedicated, bus-only lanes that allow them to get ahead of traffic

Chicago is launching an express bus service in the downtown Loop that's meant to speed travel and ease congestion.

The $32 million upgrade called Loop Link begins Sunday. Most of the new bus transit stations will open that day with raised platforms making boarding easier.

More than 1,000 buses with routes that include the Loop Link will use dedicated, bus-only lanes on Washington, Madison, Clinton and Canal. The bus-only lanes are marked with signs and red pavement. Early signals for buses at key intersections will allow the buses to get ahead of traffic.

The city is telling bicyclists to pay close attention to pavement markings and signs on new green bike lanes. Bicyclists are required to yield to pedestrians crossing the bike lane.
