Cops: Man Stabs Woman More Than 20 Times Because She “Annoyed Him”

A man who stabbed a woman more than 20 times outside a northwest suburban movie theater said he wanted to kill her because she “annoyed” him, according to police.

Lake County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Century Theater at 21600 W. Field Pkwy. in Deer Park about 8:45 p.m. Thursday where they found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds, a statement from the sheriff’s office said.

The victim, a 24-year-old Vernon Hills woman, was stabbed more than 20 times. She suffered “lacerations to her face and neck as well as both lungs being punctured,” police said.

She remains in critical condition in the ICU unit at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

A short time later, police arrested Daniel J. Dion, 18, of Des Plaines, who was treated at another hospital for cuts on his hands, and then arrested, police said.

Police said Dion “confessed to attacking [the victim] while inside her vehicle in the parking lot of the theater.”

Detectives said the two worked together at a Deer Park Quality Customer Service and Sales call center.

He had allegedly arranged to meet her to see a movie, then attacked her inside her vehicle in the parking lot of the theater. The injured woman “was able to escape and run into the lobby of the theater for help,” the statement said.

Dion told detective “he woke up in the morning with the intent to kill King because she annoyed him,” police said.

Detectives told NBC Chicago’s Katie Kim the suspect said he was thinking about killing someone for a while and "today, it was going to be her."

He was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery in a public way.

Dion is being held without bond in the Lake County Jail and his next court appearance is scheduled for 1:30 pm. on Feb. 2.
