Mayor Rahm Emanuel is asking for 1,000 residents to help mentor some of Chicago’s at-risk youth.
The call seeks to pair at-risk youth across the city with a mentor so they “can receive guidance and opportunities critical to each and every child’s development and success,” according to a release from the mayor’s office.
The program, called the Mayor’s Mentoring Challenge, is a two-year initiative that plans to help partnering nonprofit organizations identify and match new mentors with elementary through high school-aged students. The mentors would volunteer on a weekly or monthly basis.
