The outbound Eisenhower Expressway near Austin ropened around 8 a.m. after closing early Friday morning following a fatal accident involving an SUV.
The accident occurred just before 4 a.m. on I-290 slightly west of Austin. The driver of the SUV was thrown from the vehicle and died, according to Illinois State Police.
One right-shoulder lane of traffic was sneaking by, causing huge commuter delays. Roosevelt Road as an alternate also was jammed, and Jackson and Lake streets were offered as other alternates.
Police said an investigation was ongoing, and a full right lane would be open first.
On Wednesday, all lanes of the inbound Stevenson Expressway were closed for more than six hours because of a fatal car collision with a dump truck.
Eastbound I-90 also was blocked Friday morning at Barrington because of a deadly accident.
