Lewis had emergency surgery in October after she was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor.
She was considered a strong candidate to challenge Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2015 municipal elections but ultimately decided not to run following the diagnosis. She later endorsed candidate Jesus "Chuy" Garcia. [[279776282, C]]
