Eight pit bulls in Harvey were rescued from a suspected life in the ring.
Sheriff's deputies there found six of the dogs tethered in a trashed-out backyard with no food and water in sight. Police said they believe the animals were being trained for fighting.
Two six-month-old puppies were found in cages filled with feces.
Animal Control is examining and evaluating the dogs.
The owner faces a variety of charges including animal cruelty.
