Autopsy Inconclusive for 6-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Bathtub

A police source says the girl's stepfather found her unresponsive in the bathtub

State child welfare authorities are investigating the parents of a 6-year-old girl who was found dead in a bathtub in her Chicago Lawn neighborhood home on the Southwest Side Friday evening.

At about 5:30 p.m., police were called to the home in the 6300 block of South Fairfield and found Alisson Lopez unresponsive, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

A police source said the girl was found unresponsive by her stepfather in the bathtub in the family’s home.

An autopsy on Saturday was inconclusive pending further studies, according to the medical examiner’s office. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect and abuse against her mother and stepfather, department spokeswoman Veronica Resa said. The department has had prior contact with the family, including an unfounded report from March 2014.

One other child from the home, a sibling of Alisson’s, has been taken into DCFS protective custody, Resa said. Area Central detectives are conducting a death investigation.
