A man from Chicago's South Side charged Thursday night in connection with a shooting from a Chicago Transit Authority subway platform was carrying a loaded assault rifle and 60 additional bullets at the time of his arrest, police said.
Lorenzo Jones, 25, was charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count each of aggravated assault with the discharge of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, all felonies, a statement from the Chicago Police Department said.
He was ordered held Friday on $2 million bail.
The shots were fired at about 11:20 a.m. at the LaSalle Street station, on the 500 block of South LaSalle Street, as a northbound Blue Line train for O'Hare International Airport was approaching the station.

"We were able to track this individual from getting on at LaSalle, taking a Loop, and going back and getting off at LaSalle and then waiting, and then as the train pulled into the station he fired a number of shots at the actual train," police Supt. Garry McCarthy told reporters during a Thursday afternoon press conference centered around Tuesday night's standoff in the Englewood neighborhood.
Jones allegedly took off running after the shooting but was later arrested near South State and West Polk streets.
McCarthy said he believed there were five shots fired at the train. No one was injured.
"It was kind of bizarre behavior. I don't know what his motivation was," McCarthy said.
Police said the gun used in the shooting was stolen in Indiana but that Jones did have a valid Firearm Owners Identification card.
