Suburban Funeral Home Hopes to Use New Liquor License to Move Away From Traditional Funeral Services to ‘Life Celebrations'

The family-owned funeral home hopes the new license will help the business move away from traditional funerals to "life celebrations"

A suburban Chicago funeral home now has permission to serve alcohol during funerals and wakes.

The Wheeling village board approved a new liquor license request Monday for Kolssak Funeral Home that will support the company’s mission to change the ways families, friends and funeral attendees pay their respects to the lives of their loved ones.

The family-owned funeral home at 4255 West Division Street hopes the new license will help the business move away from traditional funerals to "life celebrations."

Owner Jon Kolssak says they are currently in talks to partner with local favorite Tuscany Italian restaurant to obtain the liquor for services, and hope to begin as early as the end of January.

Kolssak said he doesn’t want it to be thought of as a bar, but instead an opportunity to give people the chance to “celebrate a life like they would in their own homes.”
