Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is known for his seemingly inexhaustible supply of joy and elation over the game of baseball, but during Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night, the star was dealing with a different type of emotion.
In a revealing video released by Fox Sports, Rizzo and Cubs catcher David Ross were discussing in the dugout what their emotions were like, and Rizzo quoted the movie “Anchorman” to help illustrate how nervous he was:
For those who can’t hear the video, here’s the full exchange:
Rizzo: I can’t control myself right now. I’m trying my best.
Ross: Understandably so, buddy.
Rizzo: I’m emotional.
Chicago Baseball
Ross: I hear ya.
Rizzo: I’m an emotional wreck.
Ross: Well, it’s only going to get worse. Just continue to breathe. That’s all you can do buddy. It’s only gonna get worse.
Rizzo: I’m in a glass case of emotion right now.
Ross: Wait until the ninth with this three-run lead.
The Cubs did end up going on to win the game, and appropriately enough, Rizzo got to catch the final out that clinched the World Series championship for the Cubs. For good measure he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the clinching victory.
