A grandmother and a young girl were injured when they were attacked by a dog in Chicago Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the attack happened in the 5100 block of South Fairfield Avenue in the Gage Park neighborhood. Animal control vehicles were at the scene.
A 56-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl both sustained injuries to their legs after being attacked by a pitbull, authorities and neighbors said. The two were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where they were in stable condition.
Witnesses saw the attack happened and called 911. They say the victims were walking into a house when one of three dogs in the home proceeded to attack them.
Neighbors were familiar with the dogs, but said they never expected the attack.
"For the most part they were friendly, said neighbor Jose Fontanez, who added that they previously "never bothered anybody."
