Woman Shot During Car Chase Flees to Police Station

A woman sitting in the passenger seat of a minivan was shot Saturday morning while the driver was being pursued by people in another car.

The 30-year-old woman was in a minivan heading northbound with five other people in the 1700 block of North Kimball Avenue about 5:15 a.m. when two males in a white two-door car started chasing them, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

One of the people in the car fired shots at the minivan as they followed it through the Humboldt Park and Logan Square neighborhoods, police said.

The driver of the van finally drove to the Shakespeare District police station at 2150 N. California Ave. for protection, Estrada said. The passenger had suffered a graze wound to her head during the chase, police said.

No one else in the minivan was hurt, Estrada said.

Everyone who was in the vehicle has documented gang affiliations, and the shooting is thought to have been gang-related, police said.

No one is in custody as Area North detectives investigate.
