A man was killed and 14 other people were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon -- including four people shot along a Safe Passage route near a South Side elementary school.
A 19-year-old man died after he was shot in Englewood Saturday night. He was standing near South Morgan and West 70th streets about 7:15 p.m. when he "heard shots and felt pain," police and fire officials said.
The man, identified as Marcus Rush of the 2600 block of South King Drive, died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 2:05 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
The most recent non-fatal shooting happened about 3:45 p.m. Sunday when A man believed to be 24-years-old was wounded in a shooting in the city's Woodlawn neighborhood, police said.
The man was shot around 3:45 p.m. in the 600 block of East 67th Street, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
Preliminary information indicated the man suffered a gunshot wound to his right side and was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, Ursitti said.
Around 4:50 a.m. Sunday in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood. A 48-year-old man was shot in the shoulder during a domestic attack in the 8000 block of South Loomis Boulevard, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition, and a suspect is in custody for the shooting, police said.
A man was shot in the North Side Albany Park neighborhood about 10 p.m. Saturday. The man, in his 20s, was shot in the leg in the 4700 block of North Sacramento Avenue and taken in good condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.
A man was shot during an argument Saturday afternoon in the West Side North Lawndale neighborhood. The 39-year-old man was arguing with another person in the 1600 block of South Karlov Avenue about 3 p.m. when the other person pulled out a gun and shot him, police said. The man took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.
A 44-year-old man was was shot in a Belmont Cragin alley Saturday morning on the Northwest Side, police said. The man was leaving a garage in the 2300 block of North Mango Avenue when a gunman got out of a black four-door sedan and opened fire about 7:30 a.m., police said. The man was shot twice in the buttocks and taken in good condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
A 19-year-old man was in the front passenger seat of a van in the 8400 block of South Burnham Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood when someone started shooting about 3 a.m., police said. He was shot in the left buttock and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in “stable” condition, police said.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the foot about 12:20 a.m. in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. He was standing outside with his girlfriend in the 4800 block of West Monroe Street when he heard gunfire. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in “stable” condition, police said.
Four people were shot about an hour earlier in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood. Three men and a teenager were standing on the sidewalk about 11:10 p.m. Friday in the 6000 block of South Indiana Avenue when a dark-colored sedan drove by and someone inside started shooting, police said.
The shooting happened along a Chicago Public Schools Safe Passage Route near John Foster Dulles Elementary School, the CPS website said.
A 22-year-old man was shot in the left calf and upper back and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, police said. A 16-year-old boy shot in the right thigh and an 18-year-old man shot in the hand were both taken in “stable” condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. Another man, 21, was shot in the left leg and is in “stable” condition at St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Centers, police said.
About an hour before that, a teenage boy was shot while crossing a street in the South Shore neighborhood, police said. The boy, 16, was crossing the street in the 1600 block of East 71st Street about 10:10 p.m. when a male shooter approached and fired at him, police said. He was shot in the shoulder and buttocks and taken in “stable” condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
About 8:30 p.m., a woman was hurt when someone started shooting at a car full of people in the Chatham neighborhood. The 20-year-old woman and three other females were sitting in the parked vehicle in the 7500 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue when a shooter came out of a gangway and opened fire, police said. The woman was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in “stable” condition with a gunshot to the hand and a graze wound to the cheek, police said. Nobody else was hurt in the shooting.
The weekend’s first shooting occurred about 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Little Village neighborhood. An 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were on the street in the 4100 block of West 24th Place when they heard shots and realized they’d been hit, police said. The boy was shot in the leg, while the man was shot in the chest and both legs, police said. Both were listed in “stable” condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
Police said they have nobody in custody in connection with these shootings.
