The Chicago Cubs sent Kyle Schwarber down to the minor leagues hoping that he would be able to find his groove again after a rough start to the 2017 season, and it certainly looks like that’s what he’s doing.
Schwarber, who was batting a paltry .171 with 12 home runs when he was sent down by the Cubs last week, has been taking Triple-A pitching by storm, as he’s hit four home runs in the last two games for the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines.
The slugger smashed a pair of dingers on Friday night in the Cubs’ 7-3 win over the Round Rock Express. He drove in three runs in the game and also coaxed a walk in the contest, boosting his batting average at the Triple-A level to .368 and his OPS up to 1.113.

Schwarber kept right on slugging on Saturday night as he played in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Express. In the first inning, Schwarber turned on a pitch on the outside corner and deposited it over the left field wall to put the Cubs ahead and give himself his third home run in two games.
In the fifth inning, Schwarber struck again. He smashed a solo home run, his fourth in two days, in the frame to give the Cubs a 5-2 lead.
With the Cubs still dealing with difficulties in terms of scoring runs, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them bring Schwarber back up at some point in the near future if he continues to hit the way that he is. The Cubs have lost back-to-back games against the Cincinnati Reds this week, scoring a total of three runs in dropping consecutive contests.
