According to a new We Ask America poll released this week, nearly half of likely Democratic voters in Illinois chose Sen. Dick Durbin as their gubernatorial pick for 2018.
The poll, which surveyed 1,128 likely Democratic voters, offered a list of possible candidates and asked respondents which candidates they would “most likely vote for if they do run for Illinois governor.”
Durbin received 48.87 percent of the votes. Durbin has repeatedly said he will wait until after the November election to decide whether he will take on Gov. Bruce Rauner in 2018.
Former Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn received 9.91 percent of the vote, while businessman Chris Kennedy, who is the son of former Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, grabbed 4.5 percent.
Kennedy slammed Rauner during a speech to the Illinois delegation at the DNC Tuesday, stoking further speculation about a possible gubernatorial bid.
Reps. Cheri Bustos and Robin Kelly garnered 4.88 percent and 3.63 percent, respectively. State Sens. Heather Steans and Kwame Raoul received .63 percent and 1.46 percent, respectively.
Raoul threw his hat in the gubernatorial ring this week at the DNC, claiming he would be open to running for governor.

Additionally, 18.90 percent of the poll’s respondents remained undecided and 7.21 percent said they would prefer “someone else.”
