Members of the Prospect High School Knights marching band learned Thursday that they're of an elite group of bands -- and the only one from Illinois -- that'll take part in the 2016 Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
The students erupted in celebration when the surprise announcement was made during a morning band meeting.
"The way they built it up I was afraid it would be bad news, but it ended up being the best news in the world," sophomore Hannah Thornton told the Daily Herald.
The Marching Knights were among more than 175 applicants for the opportunity to perform for 3.5 million people along the parade route and a television audience estimated to be around 50 million.
