Chicago businessman and former mayoral candidate Willie Wilson has announced he will run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016.
"I'm here today to announce that I am running for president of the greatest country in the world," Wilson said Monday, surrounded by supporters.
Wilson, who said he wants to be a "people's candidate," announced in May that he had launched an exploratory committee to advise him on whether he should run.
“This has not been an easy decision for me,” Wilson said in a statement. “But I know that it is the right decision.”
The latest announcement comes after a failed bid for mayor of Chicago, where Wilson won just 10 percent of the vote. His campaign, however, said Wilson's run sparked a historic runoff election in the city.
