An ambulance with a patient inside and a car were struck by gunfire on Chicago's Dan Ryan Expressway at the start of the Thursday afternoon rush.
The Superior ambulance and car were traveling north in the local lanes of the expressway about 3:15 p.m. near 31st Street when someone opened fire from another vehicle, according to Illinois State Police.
An employee and patient were in the ambulance, and two people were in the car, state police said. No one was injured.
The ambulance and the car were pulled off the expressway. A description of the shooter wasn’t available, police said.
The two right lanes of the expressway remained blocked as of 5 p.m. between Pershing and 43rd Street as police investigate.
