The Chicago Bears have traded up in the third round of the NFL Draft, taking Iowa State running back David Montgomery with the 73rd pick overall.
The Bears, who originally held the 87th pick in the draft, moved up 14 spots to draft Montgomery.
The Bears traded the 87th overall pick and the 162nd pick in the fifth round of this year's draft to the New England Patriots, and also sent their 2020 fourth round pick to New England. The Patriots also sent a sixth-round pick, the 205th pick overall, to the Bears.
Montgomery was a star in his final season with the Cyclones, rushing for 1,216 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 216 pound junior also had 22 catches for 157 yards in his final collegiate season.
With Jordan Howard having been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason, Montgomery will look to team up with new acquistion Mike Davis and returning star Tarik Cohen in the Bears' backfield, and he will hope to give head coach Matt Nagy a bit of a different look offensively.
