Rumors have swirled throughout the offseason that the Chicago Bears could potentially trade running back Jordan Howard, but new head coach Matt Nagy had some very strong opinions on the matter.
Nagy, whose system utilizes pass-catching running backs out of the team’s backfield, said that the team is prepared to make Howard the featured back in the team’s offense, even with his pass-catching issues.
“We’re going to use multiple backs,” Nagy said. “To sit here and say Jordan doesn’t fit this offense isn’t very fair.”
Howard caught 23 passes for 125 yards last season, but has 12 drops already in his NFL career. He has averaged 4.6 yards per carry in his career, and he has rushed for a total of 2435 yards in his first two NFL seasons.
Rumors about a Howard trade began when the Miami Dolphins were looking for a trade partner to unload wide receiver Jarvis Landry, and have intensified as the NFL Draft nears.
