Amara Enyia's Communications Director Departs, Citing ‘Troubling Factors'

"As of December 12, 2018, I no longer represent Mayoral Candidate Amara Enyia as Communications Director," Kristi Dunn Kucera wrote in a statement.

Citing "several unknown and troubling factors," the communications director for Chicago mayoral candidate Amara Enyia announced Wednesday she has stepped down from her role within the campaign.

"As of December 12, 2018, I no longer represent Mayoral Candidate Amara Enyia as Communications Director," Kristi Dunn Kucera wrote in a statement. "In light of several unknown and troubling factors that I was not privy to during the campaign, I am unable to effectively continue in this role. I wish her the best in her endeavor."

The specifics of the factors Kucera references weren't immediately known. Kucera was still listed Wednesday as the media contact on Enyia's website.

Sources within the Enyia campaign said this shakeup comes as the campaign heads to the next level. With more financing and more momentum comes the hiring of more experienced political staff.

"As we step into the next and final stage of this campaign, internal transitions and shifts are to be expected," Enyia said in a statement. "We are excited for the opportunity to expand our growing team ahead of this critical next phase of work, and we remain grateful to all of our colleagues, past and present, for the exceptional work they’ve done thus far."

Enyia announced her candidacy in October with the help of Chance the Rapper, who credited her as "somebody that’s about change, somebody that’s about our community, somebody that’s about equity, somebody that’s about fairness."

Since then, Kanye West made two donations to Enyia's campaign, the first for $73,540 and the second for $126,460.

The first of the two donations represented the exact amount Enyia needed to pay off the fines she incurred from not closing her campaign account after ending her mayoral bid ahead of the last election.
