Federal agents conducted a raid at the home of former Chicago Alderman Michael Zalewski earlier this year, law enforcement sources tell NBC 5.
The raid took place in May, according to a source, and was executed at Zalewski’s home on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday that the former alderman has hired defense attorneys, and that public records show he has had tax troubles with the IRS.
Zalewski served as an alderman in the city’s 23rd Ward for over 20 years before retiring in May of 2018. At one time he served as the chairman of the City Council’s Aviation Committee.
The former alderman is just the latest official to be caught up in a sweeping federal investigation.
Stay tuned to NBC 5 and NBC Chicago for more on this developing story.
