Adventures in Modern Music Top Acts

For the adventurous music listener, there is simply no better read than The Wire, the longrunning journal of all things way-out. Though they're based in the UK, The Wire has, for many years now, teamed with Chicago's own Empty Bottle for the Adventures in Modern Music Festival, a multi-day showcase of the bleeding edge of music's avant garde.

This year's AIMM Fest goes down September 28-October 2 at the Bottle, with a field trip of sorts September 30 to the Museum of Contemporary Art for a performance from minimal techno icon Oval and undulating on-the-rise dubsters Peaking Lights. (Garage-rocking Feast fave Ty Segall is playing the Bottle October 1, although that doesn't appear to be a proper AIMM Fest gig.)

We've highlighted a few of our favorites from the 2011 AIMM Fest's impressive lineup, but since AIMM's about discovery and The Wire's tastemaking bona fides are downright impeccable, it'll be hard to go wrong with any of these shows. Tickets for the Bottle gigs are onsale here, while the MCA event is onsale here.
