If You're a Cut Above, “Shear Genius” Wants You

Hair styling competition Shear Genius holds open casting call

I've been shaving my head for at least 8 years, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the good work that hairstylists do.

People who know and enjoy "hair fashion" are likely familiar with Shear Genius, a reality television competition on the Bravo network that focuses on hair styling and is hosted by Charlie's Angels actress Jaclyn Smith.

If your hairstyling skills are a cut above the rest, Shear Genius is looking for licensed stylists for their third season, and they're coming to Chicago this weekend.

Applicants do not need years of experience, but they will need creativity, skill, and a competitive spirit. There's $100,000 waiting for the winner!

An open casting call will be held Sunday, March 29 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and Monday, March 30 (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) at America's Beauty Show at McCormick Place (2301 S. Lake Shore Drive).

Stylists must bring the following: a mannequin head with hair, mannequin stand, spray bottle, shears, any other styling supplies you need, completed and signed application, completed and signed Certification of Veracity, your portfolio, a copy of your cosmetology license, a work resumé, a recent photo, and a photo copy of a government-issued photo ID.

If you are unable to apply in person or for more information, visit the Bravo Web site.

Here's hoping you make the cut.
