NBC 5 Chicago’s rich history includes a number of television "firsts." On April 15, 1956, NBC 5 became the world’s first all-color station. NBC 5 went on to become the first Chicago commercial station to broadcast in stereo, the first to present closed captioning of all local newscasts and the first to launch a street side studio. Currently, NBC 5 airs 30 hours of local news per week in HD and covers the Chicago area online at nbcchicago.com.
