Go Hug a Tree

Morton Arboretum celebrates Arbor Week

It really should not be a surprise that the Morton Arboretum of all places celebrates Arbor Week.

That's the week surrounding Arbor Day, Friday, April 24, a day that is intended to draw awareness to the importance of arbor -- i.e. planting trees.  This eco-friendly week (April 18-26) designated by the Morton Arboretum coincides quite perfectly with Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22.

The Arboretum's theme for Arbor Week this year is “One Tree Makes a Difference.”

And one person going to the Arboretum can make a difference, too.

During the designated week, visitors an participate in tree plantings (a little fresh air and hopefully sunshine will do you some good) and earth-friendly activities like the “Green Boutique” on Sunday, April 19. The boutique is an eco-friendly marketplace featuring environmentally-friendly home décor, cosmetics, and luxury apparel.

Vendors at the market will include: Epically Epic Soap Co., Affordable Antiques, Litter Free Lunch, Windy City Glass Blowers, It's Our Earth, Bonterra/McNab Ranch Wine, Organic & Biodynamic Wines, Say Thank You, Arbonne Products, and Purple Pepper Kids.

That same day, U.S. astronaut Mark Lee will be on hand for two presentations – one at 1 p.m. and one at 3 p.m. – called “Observations from Space.”  He'll share what celestial inspiration puched him to plant 140,000 trees on earth. (Presentations are $12; $5 for members)

Check out the Morton Arboretum web site for more events on Sunday and during the rest of Arbor Week.
