You've graduated from slamming shots and daring your friend to drink the worm at the bottom of the bottle. (That was so Spring Break '95.) Learn to savor tequila at River North's Zocalo, when the restaurant hosts a tequila tasting on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Featuring Hacienda de Chihuahua Sotol tequilas, Zocalo will pour samples of blanco, reposado and anejo varieties. You'll have to sip slowly to discern the differences.
Along with the tequilas, Zocalo will offer passed appetizers and a traditional "taquiza" chef's station serving up braised and grilled meats, homemade salsas, handmade guajillo chile tortillas and two types of tacos: braised beef barbacoa (with cilantro, onion and a roasted red jalapeno salsa) and crispy duck carnitas served with an ancho pepper-peanut salsa.
Entrance is $15, and all guests will have the chance to win prizes, such as bottles of tequila and Zocalo gift cards. Call 312-302-9977 for reservations.
