Waiting for Mr. Fitzgerald. That's what the impeachment committee deciding the fate of Gov. Rod Blagojevich is doing before they move forward. on criminal charges against the governor.
Committee members say they won't do anything that might complicate the investigation by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald. So the committee last week asked Fitzgerald for guidance on what it should and shouldn't do.
Monday's hearing by the Illinois House committee began with an announcement that they still haven't heard from Fitzgerald. They hope to get word from him later in the day.
In the meantime, the committee plans to hear testimony on Blagojevich giving state jobs and contracts to campaign donors.
