One person is in custody after a deadly shooting on the North Shore Monday night, according to police.
The shooting took place just after 7 p.m. in the 200 block of Latrobe Avenue in suburban Northfield, officials said.
Steve Shapiro, who lived in that same block, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:55 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Authorities said he was 71 years old.
Few details were released on what took place leading up to the shooting, which prompted a massive police response.
"When Glencoe and Winnetka police showed up, they responded and eventually set up a perimeter and once they got more word, they shifted the perimeter farther to keep us out of the danger," area resident Blake Segvich said.
Officials said the shooting was domestic in nature and there was no threat to the community.
Hours later, several neighboring departments and a SWAT team filled a street in nearby Winnetka, asking the public to avoid the busy area of Tower Road between Hibbard and Green Bay.
