At least 14 students were taken to area hospitals from a Chicago elementary school Wednesday morning after they may have ingest an "unknown substance."
A Level 1 Hazmat was called at James Russell Lowell Elementary School, located at 3320 W. Hirsch on Chicago's Northwest Side, fire officials said.
Details on what happened weren't immediately released, but Chicago Public Schools released a statement saying school officials called 911 over concerns a group of students may have ingested an "unknown substance."
Chicago Fire Media Affairs reported four students were taken to Stroger Hospital, four to Norwegian American Hospital, four to St. Mary's Medical Center and two to West Suburban Medical Center. All were listed in good condition, officials said.
The students were "alert and conscious," according to CPS, and did not have life-threatening symptoms.
