2 Arrested at TIF Protest

Two demonstrators protesting the Tax Increment Financing program were arrested Saturday afternoon in the River North neighborhood.

The protest and march started about noon at the Jenner Elementary School at 1119 N. Cleveland Ave. Cook County Clerk David Orr led the march of community and labor groups -- including teachers, parents and students -- to call for a return of TIF funds to schools.

Chicago Teachers Union staff coordinator Jackson Potter and Chicago ADAPT Co-coordinator Amber Smock were arrested around 1:30 p.m. at the Grossinger City Autoplex at 1516 N. Fremont St., according to a release from the Chicago Teachers Union.

Police said Potter and Smock were each charged with one count of misdemeanor criminal trespassing to property.
