A 2.9 magnitude earthquake shook Lake in the Hills Wednesday evening.
The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 2.9 earthquake that rattled the ground at 6:08 p.m. about one mile west of Lake in the Hills.
The reported depth of the quake was 9.9 kilometers.
Other cities reported to have felt the shake include Algoquin, Huntley, Crystal Lake and Madison, Wisconsin.
USGS officials say most earthquakes with a magnitude less than 3.0 on the Richter scale usually don't cause damage.
