A 23-year-old man accused of robbing numerous businesses on the Southwest Side was ordered held on a $300,000 bond Monday.
Officers linked the man to several armed robberies after he was arrested Friday night during the course of a robbery at a restaurant in the 6400 block of West 63rd Street, police said.
According to police, detectives were conducting surveillance on the restaurant as several other businesses were previously robbed in the area.
Detectives broke surveillance after Samuel Ferrara walked inside and announced a robbery, police said. A .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol and a knife were recovered after Ferrara was taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed Ferrara was also responsible for several other robberies committed in the area, police said.
Ferrara was charged with seven felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, six felony counts of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, one felony count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm, two felony counts of theft, two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one misdemeanor count of failure to register a firearm, police said.
Ferrara, of the 6600 block of West 59th Street, was ordered held on a $300,000 bond at a hearing Monday, officials said. He will next appear in court for a preliminary hearing Friday.
