Multiple people were shot inside a CTA Red Line train station on Chicago’s Far South Side, causing transit delays for a portion of Sunday afternoon.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, at around 2:46 p.m., three individuals were shot in the area near 95th and State streets when shots were fired. A 19-year-old man was involved in an altercation with an unknown offender, and a time later, he fled into a train station's vestibule at which point a suspect opened fire, Chicago police said. The victim was shot in the right hand and right leg and listed in fair condition. Two others in the vestibule, a 18-year-old man and 16-year-old boy, also sustained gunshot wounds, police stated. The 18-year-old was shot in the left arm and listed in good condition at the hospital. The 16-year-old sustained gunshot wounds to the right shoulder, right arm and lower back and was reported to be in critical condition.

A 44-year-old woman fell "due to the commotion" and was taken to the hospital, but didn't sustain any gunshot wounds, according to Chicago firefighters.

As a result of the shooting, Red Line service between 95th and 87th Streets was halted in both directions. It had been restored as of 4:14 p.m., according to a tweet from the CTA. Trains were running with "residual delays" minutes after service resumed.

The incident remains under investigation by Area Two detectives.
