Seven Illinois hospitals were named among the best in the country, according to Leapfrog Group’s annual list.
The independent watchdog group chose the top hospitals across the nation by comparing their “performance on national standards of patient safety, quality, efficiency and management structures that prevent errors, providing the most comprehensive picture of how patients fare at individual institutions,” the site states.
The hospitals selected in Illinois were Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital, Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Amita Health Resurrection Medical Center Chicago, Amita Health Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center Chicago, and University of Chicago Medical Center.
Rush University Medical Center and Lurie Children’s Hospital surprisingly, did not make the list this year.
According to Leapfrog Groups’ official site, the survey divided them into categories.
“Of the 118 Top Hospitals recognized, 13 were Top Children’s Hospitals, 35 Top General Hospitals, 53 Top Teaching Hospitals and 17 Top Rural Hospitals.
The site also states, “Leapfrog is proud to recognize the recipients of our most elite award for safety and quality,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We’re encouraged by the hard work of Top Hospitals, as well as all of the hospitals that compete for this award. Their transparency and determination delivers the best possible care in their communities.”
