Nine children were hospitalized Thursday afternoon after becoming sick at Fulton Elementary School in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood, fire officials said.
Authorities said first responders received a call at approximately 12:55 p.m. of multiple sick children shortly after the students had eaten lunch.
The nine children were all transported to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.
A statement from the school confirmed school officials notified CPS officials immediately after students began to feel sick.
"Safety is always my top priority, which is why I am writing to notify you of a situation that occurred today. This afternoon, we were made aware that members of our school community fell ill after ingesting our school food. We immediately notified the CPS Office of Nutrition Support Services and the CPS Office of Student Health and Wellness to support members of the classroom as needed. While I cannot provide further details for privacy reasons, I can share that we are responding to this situation in accordance with CPS policies," a statement from the school's principal read in part.
There was no further information available.
