A hero who helped save the driver who crashed onto a Lake Shore Drive bike path shares what he saw. NBC 5’s Patrick Fazio has the details.

A man is in critical condition after his vehicle veered off Lake Shore Drive and went through a popular bike path during the morning rush hour.

Chicago police said the man’s car went over an embankment just before 9 a.m. in the 2700 block of northbound Lake Shore Drive. He was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

It remains unclear if anyone on the bike path was injured during the accident.

Video from the scene showed a guard rail in pieces and a mangled car on the bottom level of the bike path near Diversey Harbor.
