Lin-Manuel Miranda came to Chicago’s National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture Wednesday to emphasize the need for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico.
The famed composer and performer has been working with the Hispanic Federation’s UNIDOS Disaster Relief Fund for Puerto Rico, writing a song for the cause and using his influence to raise money for still-recovering island.
Miranda is of Puerto Rican descent, and in the wake of hurricane Maria he almost immediately began harnessing his talents and connections to help.
Miranda’s charity single “Almost Like Praying,” which was released last month, benefits the UNIDOS Disaster Relief Fund. It hit no. 1 on iTunes in 17 countries and was the most-downloaded song the week of its release.
