“Multiple fatalities” were reported after a small plane headed for Chicago's Midway Airport crashed in southern Indiana, officials said.
According to authorities, the Cessna Citation C525 private jet crashed just before 11:30 a.m. “under unknown circumstances” Friday about 15 miles north of Louisville International Airport. Indiana State Police said there were "no survivors at the crash site."
The "corporate-style jet" was traveling from Clark Regional Airport in Clark County, Indiana to Midway Airport when it “disappeared from the air traffic radar,” the Federal Aviation Administration said. The plane crashed in a “densely wooded area” near Memphis, Indiana, local authorities said.
FAA investigators and the National Transportation Safety Board were headed to the scene.
Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel said there were “multiple fatalities” in the crash. There were believed to be three people on board, including the pilot, police said in a statement.
Noel said the aircraft was designed to have less than 10 passengers.
The Clark County Airport confirmed a flight left their airport at 11:24 a.m. en route to Chicago.
