Ninth Lawsuit Filed Against CTA Over Blue Line Derailment

The suit claims the train operator fell asleep and seeks more than $50,000 in damages

The CTA is facing at least its ninth lawsuit over a Blue Line train derailment at O’Hare Airport last spring.

Jerry Groshon filed the latest suit Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court, claiming he was injured while riding the train which derailed and went up an escalator at the O’Hare stop about 3 a.m. on March 24, 2014.

The suit claims the train operator fell asleep and seeks more than $50,000 in damages.

At least eight other people who were aboard the train, including five airport workers, have sued the CTA since last March.
